Advent is a season in the liturgical calendar that begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas and ends on December 23rd or 24th (depending on one's interpretation). The term is from the Latin for "Arrival", and the season is the period during which the focus is upon the impending arrival of Jesus on Christmas. In some traditions the focus may also be on the impending Second Coming of Christ, on a date unspecified.
