Hymns written for, or customarily sung, on particular days of the year. Some of these days are prominent in the worship of most churches, for example, Christmas or Easter. Some are major church holy days in some denominations but ignored in others, e.g. Ash Wednesday or Ascension Sunday. Some are frequently noted in church, though not exactly church holidays, for example, birthdays, Mother's Day or Memorial Day. And some are of only limited or local observance, such as the Feast of St. Oliver Plunkett, or Reformation Sunday.
