Peaceful the night when He came down,
Down to the earth He made.
No robe nor scepter, throne nor crown,
But in a manger laid.
Still was the stable where He slept,
Hushed were the souls who vigil kept,
Silently tears of joy were wept;
Let heaven's angels sing!

Peaceful His walk among His friends,
Friends who would soon betray.
He, to fulfill the covenant,
Freely our ransom paid.
Smitten, reviled, and crucified,
Lone and forsaken, Jesus died.
Now He has risen, glorified!
Israel, Behold your King!

Peace! For the Savior lives today!
Peace and good will to men!
Peace! For a prophet shows the way,
Lighting the path to Him!
Still He remembers Israel,
Come then, ye saints, for all is well!
We shall return with Him to dwell;
Let men and angels sing!
